'Dead' CPI(M) leader released by Maoists

Last Updated 25 January 2010, 10:56 IST

Anand Masi Horo (35), Sundargarh district council member in Orissa, returned his house at Raxi village in early hours.

Anand along with Harinath Mundari and his younger brother Narendra was abducted from Raxi and Jamudih under K Balang police station, 120 km from here, on the night of January 22 by Maoists who suspected them to be police informers.

The Mundari brothers were set free on Saturday night.
After the release of Mundari brothers, police quoting Raxi villagers had yesterday claimed that Ananda was killed by Maoists and his body lying in Saranda forest bordering Jharkhand.
However, police and local CITU members failed to locate the body of Anand after a day-long search.

Sundergarh district CPI(M) has blamed police for their failure to provide security to villagers in Maoist prone areas. The local CPI(M) had planned to observe Bonai bandh on January 27 after police said Anand was killed.
