Delhi school closes after students test positive

Last Updated 10 August 2009, 05:19 IST

The decision to close down the Junior Modern School on Humayun Road in the city came after two class III students tested positive for the virus.

The Junior Modern School has become the third school in the city in the last two days to close the institution following cases of swine flu among students.

Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri and Delhi Public School in East of Kailash have decided to close down for a week after a student each from the educational institutions tested positive for swine flu.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit yesterday said that the government will issue an advisory to all schools to take precautionary measures but will not issue any instruction to close schools.

She had also said schools should consult the government before shutting down and there have to be "reasonable grounds" why they should be closed.

"The people of Delhi should not panic that there is a big outbreak of swine flu. But they should take precautions...We appeal to the families of victims to maintain quarantine and wear masks to prevent spread of the disease," she had said.
