Dhinakaran wants Delhi police to provide CD of his telephonic conversations

TTV Dhinakaran, nephew of jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, has pleaded a Special Court to ask Delhi police to provide a copy of the audio recordings of the telephonic conversations between him and others in the Election Commission bribery case. The counsel of the accused made a request in this regard before Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry as the case came up for hearing on Monday.

This comes in response to the Delhi Police's plea before the Court last week seeking Dhinakaran's consent for his voice samples. The crime branch of the Delhi police on Friday told the special court that they needed the Dhinakaran's voice samples to compare the same with audio recordings of his phone conversations with accused Sukesh Chandrashekar and others.

Dhinakaran's counsel told the Special Court that he would decide whether to give his consent for voice samples or not only after going through the CD of the audio recordings with police.

Chandrashekar has refused to give consent for the voice samples, saying he had a right to deny referring to several Supreme Court and High Court judgements.

Dhinakaran, his close aide Mallikarjuna and co-accused in the case Nathu Singh were produced before the Special Court from jail through video conferencing.

The Court extended the judicial custody of the accused till May 29. It also fixed May 18 as the next date for hearing argument of the Delhi police over its plea for voice samples of Dhinakaran and Chandrashekar. The court would also hear Mallikarjuna's bail plea on May 18.
