IIT Kharagpur named one of the top universities of the world for engineering

In the QS ranking, IIT Kharagpur has been ranked among India's top three domestically

Two premier educational institutions in West Bengal figured in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022. The Indian Institute of Kharagpur ranked third among the top three universities in the country for engineering and technology, while the Jadavpur University ranked 5th in ‘Arts and Humanities’ subjects.

IIT-Kharagpur stands at 101st position in engineering & technology globally, and is 3rd in India, according to the rankings announced on Wednesday.

The institute figures in the world’s top 100 universities for teaching 19 subjects, according to the rankings. This year, it placed 37th in mineral & mining engineering, up from an earlier rank of 44th last year. Its ranking for another subject, electrical & electronic engineering, improved from 90th last year to 80.

The IIT figures also occupied the top three slots nationally for these subjects: Agriculture & Forestry (1st), Statistics & Operational Research (1st), Mineral & Mining Engineering (2nd), Environmental Sciences (2nd), Economics & Econometrics (2nd), Computer Science & Information Systems (3rd), Chemical Engineering (3rd) and Accounting & Finance (3rd).

The Jadavpur University has ranked 5th among the best Indian institutions in “Arts and Humanities”, and within the top 500 institutions globally. It is the only state university in India that has found a place in the global rankings under Arts and Humanities.
