Two persons, including one who claimed to be the personal assistant of West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh, were arrested from Asansol in West Bardhaman district after Rs 1 crore was seized from them.

According to sources in the Government Railway Police (GRP), the two accused— Gautam Chattopadhyay and Lakshmikant Shaw— were moving around suspiciously at the Asansol Railway station with a large bag and were trying to board a train to Kolkata.

After GRP officials searched the bag and found Rs 1 crore in it, the two were arrested and later handed over to the state police.

Following the arrest, Chattopadhyay claimed that he was an assistant of Ghosh.

“I was busy with elections since yesterday (Sunday) and not aware of where he (Gautam Chatterjee) is. I am also not aware of the money. Some people told me that the news is coming up in the media. I am looking into it. At one point of time he (Chatterjee) was my assistant but now Deb is my assistant hence I can not comment on whom the cash belonged to and where was it being taken. There may also be conspiracy,” Ghosh said.
