Bengal extends Covid curbs till Aug 15, allows govt programmes at indoor facilities

Buses, taxis, autorickshaws have been permitted to operate with 50 per cent capacity

The West Bengal Government on Thursday extended the current Covid-19 restrictions till August 15 with additional relaxations. The development comes at a time when the sate government is boosting health infrastructure in preparation for a potential third wave.

The state government allowed indoor government programmes with 50% of the total seating capacity. It has also permitted buses and auto rickshaws to ply with 50% capacity.

It further stated that all outdoor activities from 9 pm to 5 am will be strictly prohibited with the exception of health and other emergency services.

“All outdoor activities including the movement of people and vehicles shall be strictly prohibited between 9 pm to 5 am except for health services, law and order, essential commodities including agricultural produce and other emergency services,” stated the order.

It instructed the district administration and police to ensure strict compliance with the directives.

“District administration, police commissionerates and local authorities shall ensure strict compliance of the stated directives. Any violation of the restricted measures will be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act and relevant sections of the IPC,” stated the order.
