Explain Kolkata CP's absence: EC to WB government

The Election Commission ( EC) has sought an explanation from the West Bengal government regarding the absence of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar from the meeting of EC's full bench and Bengal government officials, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said on Friday.

"We have sought an explanation from them (West Bengal government) regarding the issue," said Sunil Arora.

The EC had met several state government officials including police commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Thursday. It also met civil society members and activists working for specially abled persons.

Arora reiterated that the EC will not go back to ballot papers and will continue to use EVMs.

"There is a difference between tampering and malfunctioning. The Commission also has zero tolerance for malfunctioning," said Arora.
