Ex-Chhattisgarh CM hits out at Karti, Modi govt

Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi on Wednesday accused the Narendra Modi government of being selective in its crusade against corruption,  and demanded speeding up of probes against former finance minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti and BJP Lok Sabha member Abhishek Singh.

Addressing a press conference, Jogi also demanded that the scope of investigation against Karti should be expanded and not limited to his dealings with INX Media, which was launched by jailed media baron Peter Mukerjea .

He also accused Karti of influencing the Foreign Investment Promotion Board’s decision during his father’s tenure as finance minister.

The former finance minister, in a statement in March, had rejected the charges of Karti influencing FIPB decisions, saying he had “never allowed any family member to speak to me or to any officer of my ministry on any official matter”.

Jogi, who was sacked from the Congress and floated his own outfit Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J), also targeted incumbent Chief Minister Raman Singh’s son Abhishek, whose name had purportedly figured in the Panama Papers for transferring “ill-gotten money” into offshore accounts.

“When it comes to action against corruption, why is it limited only to non-BJP states? Why are BJP-ruled states unaffected by the action by central investigation agencies?
