Farooq Abdullah's estranged wife 'donates' kidney to ailing husband

At a time when attention of the media is on Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Molly Abdullah,  estranged London-born partner of former chief minister Farooq Abdullah has reportedly donated a kidney to her ailing husband.

“My mother donated a kidney to my dad today (Sunday). Both surgeries were successful but it’s still early days. Please keep them in your thoughts,” Hinna, daughter of Abdullah and Molly tweeted.

Abdullah, 77, was ailing for almost a year now and was undergoing treatment in London where Molly and Hinna were taking care of him. Molly and Abdullah have been married for the last five decades. “Molly must be in early 70’s and it can be gauged from the fact that both are married for almost half a century now,” a family friend who wished anonymity told Deccan Herald.

Molly, a nurse by profession and mother of incumbent Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his three sisters, had met Abdullah while he was studying medicine in the UK. Senior Abdullah and Molly tied the knot in the mid-1960s.

Even though Molly came to Kashmir after the marriage,  she is currently living in UK with her daughter Hinna for the last two decades. A relieved Omar tweeted on Monday morning: “Dad and mum’s surgery was a success and the new kidney has started functioning”.

Question arises whether, at this age, it was medically possible for Molly to donate a kidney to her husband.
