FIR against Kanhaiya over scuffle with AIIMS doctors

Last Updated 15 October 2018, 16:02 IST

Doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna went on a strike on Monday after a scuffle with former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar.

The hospital administration on Monday lodged an FIR against Kanhaiya for creating ruckus on the AIIMS campus and brawl with the security guards. Following assurance of police action, the doctors called off their agitation.

Kanhaiya had visited AIIMS on Sunday evening to meet All India Students' Federation (AISF) activist Sushil Kumar, who is undergoing treatment at Trauma Centre in the prestigious hospital. However, a scuffle broke out after Kanhaiya, as alleged by the doctors, insisted on entering the Trauma Centre along with his 15-odd supporters.

The security guards told him that he could enter the hospital with one or two persons only, as permissible. It was then that a scuffle took place between the Left-wing student leaders and the guards. In the melee, some doctors alleged that they were manhandled as well.

On Monday, the doctors went on strike. Eventually, the AIIMS administration lodged an FIR against Kanhaiya Kumar at Phulwarisharif police station.

Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey, who has sought a report from the hospital administration on this issue, has, meanwhile, warned Kanhaiya. “This is not JNU where you can indulge in any excesses. If you break the rules, then be prepared to face the consequences as per the law,” said Pandey.
