Last Updated 25 July 2019, 10:55 IST

Humane Society International (India) along with local animal activists have filed an FIR in a case of puppies being beheaded.

The video of the mother dog crying next to the carcasses of the puppies has gone viral on social media.

The case came to light when the video was circulated by a concerned citizen and local activist, Hema Bandela visited the spot to find the mother dog and the carcasses of the puppies next to her.

A complaint was then filed at the Hussaini Alam police station, after which the police has registered an FIR and began an investigation.

The carcasses of the puppies have been sent for post-mortem.

Apoorva Katpatal, cruelty response manager, HIS-India, said in a statement here on Wednesday, "We are appalled at the gruesomeness of the incident. We hope that the police will take immediate cognizance of the crime and make the necessary arrests along with psychiatric evaluation of the accused. This is a shocking incident, not only from the point of view of the animal but also human beings around the perpetrator, since we know that the animal is only the first strike. If the perpetrators are not caught, he or she will move on hurting other people too".
