JOIN USIncessant rain lashing the districts of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region over the past three days has thrown life out of gear. As many as 27 people were rescued in the past two days in Kalaburagi district.
On Saturday, nine people, who were caught in the floodwaters of River Kagina, were rescued in Gola (K) village in Chittapur taluk by a 10-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, which arrived from Hyderabad. Five people were rescued at Shankarwadi by a local team with the help of villagers. The driver of a lorry, which was washed away while crossing the submerged bridge across River Kagina at Malkhed in Sedam taluk, was brought to safety by local rescuers.
Deputy Commissioner Ujwalkumar Ghosh said five gruel centres were opened for the flood-affected people in Chittapur, Chincholi and Kalaburagi taluks. “The water level has started receding everywhere. We have kept a NDRF team ready to meet any eventuality. The situation is fully under control,” Ghosh said. Drinking water is being supplied to villages through tankers and medical teams have been sent to the flood-hit areas to check the spread of diseases, he said.
Traffic on the interstate Ribbanpalli-Wagdhari highway was affected for the second consecutive day due to the submergence of the Malkhed bridge. Chittapur also remained cut off, with Dandoti bridge getting submerged.
About 275 houses in Shahapur taluk in Yadgir district and 35 houses in Kalaburagi taluk have partially collapsed. In rural areas of the districts, a number of villages were cut off from either the taluk or district centres due to the submergence of roads and bridges.
