Fresh trouble in AAP, Kejriwal sacks Mishra; inducts two new faces

Last Updated 06 May 2017, 17:05 IST

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sacked Water Minister Kapil Mishra, considered to be a supporter of arch-rival Kumar Vishwas who was engaged in a war of words with the AAP leadership

Mishra's ouster also came on a day when he shared “explosive details” about the tanker scam involving former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. “Massive expose on tanker scam tomorrow,” Mishra, who held Water, Tourism, Culture portfolios, had tweeted minutes before his ouster from the cabinet.

The AAP appeared headed for fresh round of sparring as a defiant Mishra said the decision of his removal was taken “unitlaterally” by Kejriwal without consulting the party's top leadership.

Chief Minister has decided to induct Kailash Gahlot in Mishra's place, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced. Besides Gahlot, Rajendra Kumar Gautam will also be inducted in the cabinet, he said.

Sisodia said water management in Delhi was not up to the mark though Mishra put in a lot of efforts to set it right.

“There were complaints about water crisis, water was not reaching the people. The bills, in spite of a subsidy, were high. Kapil was doing great work, but the problems were still there,” Sisodia said.

Mishra was quoted by PTI as saying that the decision to remove him was taken “unilaterally” by Kejriwal. “The Cabinet or the Political Affairs Committee (AAP's top decision-making body) was not involved,” he said amid signs of fresh trouble breaking out in AAP, days after Kejriwal had brokered a truce with party co-founder Kumar Vishwas.

Meanwhile, Mishra took to Twitter to announce that he had informed Kejriwal about some important facts about corruption. “An all out war against corruption from tomorrow,” he tweeted. “I am the only minister with no corruption charges. No CBI inquiry against me. Did not give any post to daughter or any relative. I only exposed Sheila's corruption,” he said.

Mishra asserted that he was not going anywhere. “This is my party. I have been associated with the movement since 2004. I will not go anywhere. I will stay here and do the cleansing. Will take the broom and remove the garbage,” he said in a series of tweets.
