Funds of outfit behind Kerala lecturer attack under scanner

Documents throwing light on huge funds at the disposal of the radical outfit were seized during raids conducted in the last few days by the police team probing the hand-chopping case, police officials said.

T J Joseph, (52), lecturer at a private Christian-run college, was attacked at Muvattupuzha last Sunday while returning from a church along with his family.Joseph's right hand was chopped off for allegedly preparing a question paper with derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed.

The team headed by Deputy SP Unnirajan was looking into the source of the funds received by Popular Front and allied outfits, the officials said.During the raids at the houses of Popular Front and its political wing Social Democratic Party of India activists in police had come across several documents regarding the extent of their activities and financial clout.
Giving a serious dimension to the case, police also found CDs containing gruesome scenes of torture and executions methods employed by Al qaeda and Taliban.

The recovered documents showed the possibility of these outfits having contacts with militant organisations working outside the country, the officials said.Police yesterday issued look-out notice for three persons, Ali K K, Nasar and Yunus, who were wanted in the attack case on the lecturer.

Meanwhile, a crime branch team was set up to probe the damaging of braking system of a passenger train at Nilambur in Malappuram district two days back.
Linkage between the two cases had not been ruled out by investigators as they took place in the same week.
