Ganga-like 'aarti' on Sabarmati banks

Last Updated 29 July 2014, 19:41 IST

Even as heavy rains played spoilsport at the maiden ‘Mahaarti’, at the Sabarmati Riverfront on Tuesday, it was clear that Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel wants the message of her predecessor, Narendra Modi, to be sent out loud and clear, of keeping the river clean.

The Sabarmati Riverfront has been a pet project of the former CM and visitors from several countries in the recent past have visited to study  the project. To take it a step further, Patel along with a trust, has decided to hold this ‘aarti’ monthly.

The ‘aarti’ was held on the lines of the ‘Mahaarti’ held on the banks of the River Ganga in Varanasi.

The idea of conducting this ‘aarti’ was floated by the Peace Committee of the Jagannath Temple Trust, which takes out the annual rathyatra in the city.

With Eid and the second full moon day of the Hindu calendar month of Shravan on Tuesday, the Trust had decided this would be the best day to offer the ‘aarti’ comprising of 151 lamps.
