Govt run art culture centre cancels screening of a play

In wake of the Pulwama terror, Jawahar Kala Kendra, a government-run art and culture centre of Jaipur on Tuesday cancelled the screening of a play 'Eidgah Ke Jinnat', based on stone pelting incidents in Kashmir.

The play was scheduled to stage on Tuesday evening and was an in house production of Jawahar Kala Kendra to be screened at the ongoing theatre festival Navras.

The administration of Jawahar Kala Kendra asked the director not to perform the play looking at the sentiments of the people. However, its first show was held on Monday evening following which a group of people recorded their resentment on social media and also filed a complaint in the Bapu Nagar police station.

"A complaint was lodged demanding the cancellation of the next show. Also looking at the sentiments of the people it was better for the organisers to cancel the play. Also, security of the artists and director was important", Amit Singh, SHO Bajaj Nagar told DH.

A series of the protest was also held at the premises of the Jawahar Kala Kendra after which artists and playwright were asked to leave safely from the back door. Stating the cancellation of the play unfortunate, director of the play Abhishek Majumdar said, "Its an attack on art as well the expression of an artist. It's a sad day for me". According to the complaint filed by Suraj Soni play glorifies the stone pelters in Kashmir.

Photos of Pak cricketers removed

Sawai Man Singh Stadium of Jaipur also expressed its anguish against Pulwama terror attack by removing the photos of Pakistani cricket players from its glory wall. The photos of 25 Pakistani players including former skipper Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq who had played at the stadium in international tournaments were on display at various blocks of the stadium.
