Gujarat, China ink pact to develop smart cities

The Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT) and Qianhai Shenzhen, the silicon valley of China has entered into an intent of co-operation to develop smart cities on a reciprocal manner.

 The agreement to this effect was signed during the visit of Gujarat Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel’s to China. The agreement was signed between the Qianhai Shenzhen — Hong Kong Modern Services Industry Cooperation Zone and GIFT City.

Situated at the shore of South China Sea and adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau, Qianhai Shenzhen — Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone has emerged as an innovation area for modern service industry, acting as a pilot area for close cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong. Shenzhen is a major city in the south of Southern China’s Guangdong province and is dubbed as China’s Silicon Valley. It boasts of one of the busiest container ports in the world.

Located between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, GIFT City is an initiative of the Government of Gujarat to provide world-class infrastructure and facilities to finance and technology firms. It will have special economic zone (SEZ), international education zone, integrated townships, convention centres, technology parks, software technology parks, stock exchanges etc to provide an integrated township. Once complete, it is expected to provide 5,00,000 direct employment and generate similar number of indirect employment in the region.
