Last Updated 05 September 2011, 12:04 IST

Both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha saw repeated adjournments as BJP members kept trooping into the well and shouting slogans when ever the Houses convened.

Two bills - State Bank of India (Subsidiary Banks Laws) Amendment Bill, and Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Bill - were passed in Lok Sabha in the din without any discussion.

Barring this, the BJP members disallowed conducting any substantive business in both Houses to protest the appointment of Lokayukta by Governor Kamla Beniwal, without consulting state government. They were also demanding her recall.

Besides the Lokayukta issue, SP members were agitated over the firing on lawyers allegedly by revenue officials in Uttar Pradesh and demanded that their adjournment motion on the issue be taken up. They were opposed by BSP and some Congress members.

After they met for the day at 11 AM, both Houses were first adjourned till noon and later till 2 PM.

When Rajya Sabha reconvened, similar scenes prevailed forcing the Chair to adjourn it for the day.

Lok Sabha was adjourned till 4 PM and then for the day just after passing the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Bill in a rush.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP and Left parties closed ranks on the controversial appointment of Gujarat Lokayukta by the Governor and forced the adjournment of the House.
