Heat wave prevails in Telangana, Rayalaseema

Parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reeled under severe heat wave conditions on Sunday, due to dry weather moving from Western India.

The condition, coupled with thunderstorms and gusty winds, is expected to continue on Monday also.

Temperatures hovered around 40-43.4 degrees in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Kumram Bheem-Asifabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, Pedapalli, Karimnagar and Warangal districts of Telangana.

Mahabubnagar registered the highest temperature at 43.4 degrees and Hyderabad recorded 40.4 degrees.

As per reports, at least 12 persons died due to sunstroke on Saturday in different parts of north Telangana. In Hyderabad, normal life has been affected with the severe heat restricting people from venturing outside.

In Andhra Pradesh, Kadappa and Kurnool were the hottest areas at 42 and 41 degrees Celsius, respectively. Both Vijayawada and Guntur stood at 40 degrees.

Visakhapatnam, at 33 degrees, remained comparatively cooler.

Meanwhile, the state disaster management department, in a statement, warned of thunderstorms in parts of Visakhapatnam, Prakasam and Kurnool districts.

The state road transport in the Vijayawada region has introduced air coolers in passenger buses plying on rural roads to provide succor to passengers.
