Hindu Mahasabha questions Modi's administrative abilities

Last Updated 05 December 2016, 20:04 IST
The Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes had put a question mark on his administrative abilities. “The decision to demonetise was taken without any preparation... it makes us wonder if Modi is an able administrator,” ABHM national secretary Puja Shakun Pandey said.

“There was no preparation at all... since November 8 (the day demonetisation was announced) the government has been changing its decisions almost every day,” she said. “He (Modi) is behaving like Dhritarashtra (a character in the Mahabharata, who turned a blind eye to the misdeeds of his son Duryodhana). He should not be under any illusion... we had supported him and we can withdraw it as well... we want Modi to know about our feelings... he should not take our support for granted,” she added.

The saffron leader also sharply criticised Modi’s advice to Jan Dhan account holders to not allow withdrawals from their accounts by those who had deposited black money into them.  “This is nothing but arrogance... it is teaching people to do something that is dishonest,” Puja said.

She also referred to the cancellation of marriages owing to lack of funds following demonetisation and said that the decision was anti-Hindu. Puja said the prime minister should accept his mistake and tender an apology to the people of the country for causing them inconvenience.
