JAIPUR, DHNS: The Barmer police has registered a case against a man under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance, 2018 for allegedly giving Triple Talaq to his wife, police said.

In a complaint filed by the Barmer police on Wednesday, the woman also said her in-laws used to torture her for dowry.

Salma Bano, who is now living with her parents in Balotra in Barmer, said in her complaint that her husband, Saleem Khan, recited 'talaq' thrice over the phone on September 15.

On September 23, her husband declared 'talaq' in written form in the presence of the police at a station. The couple have been married for the last 22 years and have two sons and a daughter.

A case was registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance, 2018 against the man, police said.

The police have so far booked three family members apart from Khan — his father Mohammad Sultan, his brother Ramzan Khan and his sister Jaheena Khan.

The relatives have been booked for subjecting Salma to cruelty.
