Hyderabadi claims top spot in IIT-JEE 2011

Immadi Purudhavi Tej of Hyderabad has topped the IIT-JEE 2011, results of which were declared on Wednesday.

Subhan Mehta, who took the test from IIT’s Bombay Zone, has placed second in the all-India ranking while Shyamak Reddy and Burle Sai Kiran from Madras zone have claimed the third and fourth ranks respectively.

Sumedha Garg from IIT Roorkee zone topped among girl candidates with an all-India ranking of 12.

A total of 1,08,647 girls appeared for the joint entrance examination. Of them 1,491 qualified.

This year, 24 out of the 30 students from Bihar's free coaching centre, ‘Super 30’, have cracked the IIT-JEE 2011. ‘Super 30’ students had a 100 per cent success rate last year.

A total of 13,602 candidates were declared eligible for admission against 9,618 seats in 15 IITs, Institute of Technology, BHU in UP and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

The number of candidates declared successful exceeds the number of seats available, factoring in attrition during counselling. Admissions for the 9,600 seats offered by the IITs will be held in two rounds. The first list of seat allotment will be uploaded on IIT-Kanpur's website on June 21 and the second on July 6. According to the Union HRD Ministry, online counselling has been made available at the counselling website from May 25.

Candidates belonging to physically disabled (PD) sub-category will have to reportin person to the counseling institutes for a checkup  as specified in the counseling brochure.
