IAF pilot dies after fighter jet crashes near Gujarat's Jamnagar

In a tragic incident, an air commodore lost his life after his fighter plane, a Jaguar, crashed on Tuesday morning at Mundra in the Kutch district of Gujarat.

According to information made available by the defence services, Air Commodore Sanjai Chauhan had taken off on a routine sortie from Jamnagar Air Force Base.

"Today (Tuesday) morning a Jaguar aircraft on a routine training mission from Jamnagar crashed around 10.30 hours. The pilot, Air Commodore Sanjai Chauhan, sustained fatal injuries during the crash. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident,” Lt Col Manish Ojha, defence spokesperson, Gujarat, said in a statement.

The plane's debris was reported to be strewn all over and reports coming in suggest that several cattle died due to the impact of the crash. A team of IAF officials from Jamnagar are also learnt to have left for the crash site for detailed investigations.
