IIM-A publishes employment data

Last Updated 07 September 2011, 18:50 IST

The data, audited by CRISIL, contains details of employment of students in its three full-time management programmes and adheres to Indian Placement and Recruitment Standards (IPRS).

The data suggests that the highest salary offered to a Post Graduate in marketing (PGM) has been Rs 37 lakh. Recruiters have until now been reluctant to disclose the sums paid to the graduates employed from the IIMs, fearing that it would raise expectations of freshers passing out of the premier institutions.

“Publishing audited records ensures transparency in recruitment system, which would help both students and recruiters,” said IIM-A Director Samir Barua.

He also hoped that other IIMs in the country would follow IIM-A’s example. “The auditing helps in self regulation and enables students to get an idea of the recruitments that have happened in the campus, the recruiters and the offers,” he added.

The data reveals that many from IIM-A have preferred Indian destinations for foreign ones, a strong indication of growing job opportunities in the country.

Barua said the data would enable students to make meaningful comparisons of b-schools based on the management streams and geographic preferences.
