According to Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar Kahan Singh Pannu who attended the meeting, the meeting discussed issues relating to development of infrastructure, including construction of the Integrated Check Post (ICPs), at the Attari/Wagah border for travel and trade facilitation.

It was unanimously resolved at the meeting that the location of the second gate at the zero line as proposed by Pakistan shall be adhered to, he said.

It was further agreed that road coming from ICP on Indian side will be constructed to meet the alignment of road from Pakistan through the second gate.

Pannu said the exact location of the second gate and the proposed alignment of the road on both sides were approved after the field visit of a joint team.

"To sanitize the area around the second gate, the Indian side may construct a cattle fence as deemed appropriate in its territory", Pannu added.

He said the next meeting of the joint technical group between India and Pakistan is proposed to be held by mid-June to review the progress in this regard.

The Indian team at the meeting was led by Sada Kant, Joint Secretary (Border Management) in the Union Home Ministry while the 8-member Pakistan delegation was headed by Shabbir Ahmad, Joint Secretary in the Interior Ministry.

The ICP spread over 130 acres of land is being set up at Attari on which India is spending Rs. 120 crore.

This is the first ICP among the 13 which are expected to start functioning in April.
Around 200 trucks carrying merchandise daily go from India to Pakistan and quite a number of trucks move from Pakistan to India at the Joint Check Post.

Because of inadequate trade infrastructure facilities at the border, Indian trucks are parked on the road side, which is a serious bottleneck not only for passengers and also a hurdle in further enhancement of trade between Pakistan and India, said Pannu.
