The family of the 6-year old girl, who was injected with a drug used to sedate horses before being raped multiple times and then killed at a stud farm in Haryana, has finally got justice.

The 35-year old accused, Devi Singh, a native of Rajasthan who has three children of the age of the girl he raped, has been convicted by the court for rape and murder of the minor girl and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Court of the Additional Sessions Judge Yamunanagar in Haryana, Dr Abdul Majid, pronounced the judgement in a record 7-months after the trial began in the case. The incident that took place on June 2 last year had shocked everyone owing to the brutal nature of the crime on the minor girl.

The convict raped the 6-year old three times in eight hours before slitting her throat. She bled to death. Devi Singh worked as an assistant with the vet doctor employed at a stud farm belonging to former Haryana minister Nirmal Singh.

Singh lured the minor girl to an isolated place saying he would take her to her father. Singh then injected the minor with a heavy dose of a drug that is used to sedate horses.

Singh confessed he did this to avoid the cries of the minor girl. The girl fell unconscious after she was injected with the horse drug. Devi Singh then raped her multiple times.

After several hours when the girl showed some signs of consciousness, Singh panicked and slit her throat. He then dumped her body in a water channel near the farm. Her body was found the next day.

The post-mortem report of the deceased minor said the cause of death was multiple injuries including in the neck and genital area. The Judge spared him of death penalty maintaining that the convict has three small children and that the decision could affect them.
