Jagan asks cadre to support YSR widow

Last Updated 22 February 2012, 17:56 IST

Accused number one in the illegal assets case, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy seems to have realized his arrest is imminent and has for the first time, openly asked his cadre, supporters and MLAs to support his mother and YSR Congress Party’s honorary President Y S Vijayalakshmi in his absence, if the CBI takes him into custody.

At a party meeting he urged the supporters to work under her leadership.
The CBI probing the illegal assets case , have so far arrested Jagan’s family friend and the late YSR’s close confidant and Jagathi publications vice chairman Vijaya Sai Reddy.

However the CBI has not yet arrested Jagan so far. Observers say that there might be political reasons behind the delay as he is an MP and has special privileges. The CBI might also be double checking their facts on Jagan, before arresting him, considering the public sympathy for the scion of late YSR, the ongoing elections elsewhere and the forthcoming by–elections in the state.

The AP Assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar is also sitting on the decision of disqualifying Congress MLAs that supported Jagan in the no confidence move introduced by arch rival Telugu Desam Party.

Decision to disqualify

It is said that the Speaker has already taken a decision to disqualify the MLAs and signed the order.

But it was kept in abeyance at the request of the beleaguered Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government which is surviving with the support of Chiranjeevi’s PRP legislators. The Congress is also worried about the impact of the disqualification of its MLAs at the time the EC has announced by–elections to 6 vacant seats in Telangana and one in Coastal AP.

On his part, Jagan has decided not field any YSRCP candidates in Telangana and to contest the Kovvuru (Nellore district) seat.

He has asked his party cadre to fully support TDP rebel N Prasannakumar Reddy.
