Jagan wants to be in power for 30 yrs

Last Updated 25 July 2019, 11:02 IST

The Andhra Pradesh Opposition leader and president of YSR Congress Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has said that he wants to be in power for thirty years in the state.

Addressing a massive public meeting in Itchapuram in Srikakulam district on Wednesday, marking the completion of his 341-day, 3648 km-long 'Praja Sankalpa Padayatra', Jagan said that all he wants is his photo frame with a garland in every household after his death.

Jagan has set a record with the padayatra, erasing former walkathon records by many politicians, including his father. His father YSR had walked 1,474 km in 90 days, Chandrababu Naidu walked 2,800 km in 208 days and Jagan's sister walked 3,112 km in 230 days.

After reaching Itchapuram around 4 pm, he unveiled a huge pylon to commemorate his rare feat. Addressing the closing meeting, Jagan said the last four and half years of Naidu's governance is a total failure. He said Naidu failed to fulfill the 640 promises made by his party during the 2014 elections.

"The chief minister has robbed sand, coal and farm lands in Amaravati in the state," he said. He alleged that the TDP committees in villages are resorting to extortion. "We will bring governance close to the people by increasing districts after coming to power and village secretariats," Jagan said.

He also ridiculed Naidu's frequent U-turns regarding the Special Category Status.

"Naidu and Narendra Modi were like love birds for four years. He even passed a resolution praising Modi for offering an alternative package. Now, he has starting a new drama blaming that very same BJP," Jagan said.

His padayatra had started from father's final resting place in Idupulapaya on November 27, 2017. Except on Fridays when he was supposed to attend the CBI special court here, he walked on all other days, touching 134 Assembly segments, located in 231 blocks, addressing 124 public meetings and 55 smaller group meetings.

During this padayatra, Jagan was attacked by an airport cafeteria staffer in Visakhapatnam with a knife on October 25 when he was on his way to Hyderabad. Jagan escaped the attack, which was aimed at his neck, but received a gash on his shoulder.
