In the run-up to the ensuing elections, the YSR Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi are trying their best to lure the backward classes considered to be backbone for the ruling TDP party.

The YSRC Party organized a “BC Garjana” in Eluru of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday to counter the BC Convention of the Telugu Desam Party. Announcing a “BC Declaration ” Jaganmohan Reddy said that he will set up 139 corporations for all the castes in the state and allocate Rs 75, 000 crore for the welfare of backward classes. He also assured 50% reservations for the weaker sections in the nominated posts.

Jaganmohan Reddy assured that he will continue his father Y S R Rajasekhara Reddy’s pet scheme of 100 % fee reimbursement for the children of BCs if voted to power. “If my father took one step for the poor, I will take two. Along with reimbursing the colleges fee we will pay Rs 25,000 per annum for their hostel and mess charges,” Jagan Said. “Chandrababu Naidu in 2014 BC Declaration gave 119 promises, but fulfilled none,” Jagan said. He alleged that Naidu assured Rs 50,000 crore for the BC welfare in five years but spent only Rs 14,000 crore.
