KCR sets March 31 deadline for drinking water supply

Last Updated 25 July 2019, 11:02 IST

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday said that safe and purified drinking water will reach every household by March 31, 2019, through the Mission Bhagiratha.

"The chief minister desired that from the month of April 2019 not even a single person anywhere in the state is seen carrying a water pot or a vessel for fetching water from other than the house," a release from CM's office said.

KCR was reviewing the progress of the flagship programme at his official residence here on Monday.

The chief minister made it clear that water through Mission Bhagiratha should reach each and every habitation irrespective of whether it forms part of hilly, forest or remote areas.

Officials informed the CM that out of a total of 23,968 habitations, bulk supply through Mission Bhagiratha has already reached 23,947 habitations. They said that only in 21 villages, which were in hilly or forest areas, bulk supply of water was yet to reach.

“The responsibility of the government does not cease with merely connecting the supply of bulk water to the villages. The continuous supply of water is also as important as completing Mission Bhagiratha. A strategy has to be drawn to see that everyday water is supplied through Mission Bhagiratha uninterruptedly,” KCR said.
