KCR wants CMs' meet on Polavaram

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday demanded a meeting with his counterparts from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh to take the Polavaram irrigation project further.

Rao has already voiced his concerns over the submergence of 250 villages in Telangana due to the irrigation project that is aimed at addressing the water needs of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The Polavaram project was discussed at length during Rao’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday with the former stressing on calling a meeting of chief ministers of the four states to evolve a consensus on the matter.

“I urged him to coordinate so that a consensus can be evolved. He said he will look into it. I think he will do it,” Rao told a press conference here on Sunday.

Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi has already demanded a change in the design of the project to avoid submergence of 250 villages in Bhadrachalam mandal in Khammam in Telangana.

Recently, the Centre had issued an ordinance merging these villages with Andhra Pradesh, a move that did not go down well with Rao.
