Kerala DIG suspended from service

Deputy Inspector General of Police S Sreejith has been suspended from service following reports of alleged links with K A Rauf, the estranged co-brother of P K Kunhalikkutty.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan signed the recommendation by Director General of Police on Tuesday and DGP K S Balasubramaniyam issued the suspension order later in the day.

The order says that the IPS officer in collusion with Rauf who is a close relative of Kunahlikutty, sent a man to Malappuram DySP who had registered a case against Rauf. The DySP who did not accept the cash offered by the man and reported it to the higher up.
On preliminary investigation it was found that the man had been sent by Srijith.

Following this, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan ordered a detailed probe into the case. Thrissur range Inspector General of Police (IGP) S Gopinath who conducted the probe said that Srijith and Rauf had been in constant touch over telephone.
