Kerala government  on Thursday expressed reservation over the recommendations of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP) saying if the panel report was accepted, three taluks in Idukki district would come under the purview of Ecologically Fragile Land.

Speaking at the people’s mass contact programme here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the government had taken a stand against the Madhav Gadgil-led WGEEP recommendations as three taluks in Idukki district would come under the EFL category causing difficulty to farmers in the area.

The government had taken steps against the report, he said, adding that already people living in the area from Idukki to Kattappana were facing various difficulties as the lands in the area have been classified as EFL.
