A Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed and a cop was injured after ultras attacked a police picket at Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Friday night.

A police spokesman said that militants attacked a police picket at Achabal, 70 kms from here, late last night. “However, the attack was successfully repulsed by the alert policemen on duty at the picket,” he said and added in the retaliatory action, one militant was killed.

The weapon of the slain militant was also recovered from the site of the attack, the spokesman said and identified him as Bilal Ahmad Bhat of neighbouring Kulgam district.

Bilal had joined the LeT militant outfit three months before, police said. “His involvement was also established in a weapon snatching case earlier. He was involved in carrying out attacks on the security forces and civilian atrocities in the area.”

Police said two cars were been seized from the encounter spot, “which were apparently used by militants.”
