Lecturer issue: Kerala Education minister flays management

If necessary, the government would intervene in the matter if the management was not willing to re-consider its decision based on the directive of the MG Uiversity Syndicate.

"The management's decision was like sentencing a person to life imprisonment for a minor crime.The Government will watch what the steps the college management is going to take on the directive of the university Syndicate. After that, if the situation warranted, the government would intervene," Baby, a CPI-M nominee in the cabinet, said.

He said the dismissal of Joseph did not augur well for a healthy academic atmoshphere or one keeping in tune with the democratic spirit.

The Syndicate of the MG University yesterday gave direction to the management to reconsider the action against the teacher since it involed "gross violation of procedures."
Meanwhile, the management rejected Joseph' personal plea to take him back to service. In its reply to Joseph's letter, the management maintained he would have to opt for legal remedy for relaxation of the disciplinary action.

Joseph was first placed under suspension in March last for preparing a question paper allegedly containing derogatory reference to Prophet Muhammad, and, was dismissed from service on September 1
