It may not have been sumptuous but it definitely was packed, as the lunch packets reportedly contained "liquor bottles."

To make the matter worse, the reported distribution of liquor bottles took place inside the premises of a temple, which was revered by the locals.

An Uttar Pradesh minister has been accused of distributing "liquor bottles" along with lunch packets at a meeting organised at the famous Shravana Devi Temple in the state's Hardoi town.

According to sources, Minister Nitin Agarwal — the son of senior BJP leader Naresh Agarwal — had organised a meeting of 'Paasi' (an SC) community at the temple on Sunday.

Sources said that the lunch packets distributed among the participants, who also included scores of children, contained liquor bottles. The matter came to light when videos showing the liquor bottles in the hands of the participants, went viral on the social networking sites on Tuesday.

While the police said that it was investigating the matter, BJP MP from Hardoi Anshul Verma shot off a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding stern action against Naresh Agarwal and Nitin.

"It was a despicable act and can not be tolerated... the party (BJP) and the government must take action against those responsible for distributing liquor bottles inside the temple premises," Verma said in his letter.

Police officials said that they had seen the video and that the matter was being investigated.
