Lok. sleuths raid premises of social welfare officer, Kolar

Lokayukta police today conducted raids on the premises of a woman taluk social welfare officer at Kolar and four others and seized some documents following information that huge funds were being misused in the social welfare department in Kolar district.

A Lokayukta release said a case had been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and various sections of IPC.

The search was conducted on the premises of Taluk Social Welfare Officer (Kolar),Farookhi Sulthana, Second Division Clerk (SDC) in District Treasury Office, Kolar, Venkatesh N, warden of Nachiketha Vidyarthi Nilaya,Azeem, a group "D" employee of taluk social welfare office-Kolar, Manjunath, and President of Veda Souharda Credit Cooperative Bank Limited,Chintamani, Venugopal Reddy H N,the release said.

It is alleged that around Rs 49 lakh was illegally drawn in the names of non-existing daily wage workers in various SC and ST hostels of Kolar district by the officials of the taluk social welfare department Kolar, in connivance with the staff of Kolar district treasury office.

Office seals have also been seized during the search, the release said, adding, it is continuing.
