'Mahamilawat' will wipe out BJP: Akhilesh

Last Updated 01 May 2019, 09:59 IST

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments on the Opposition alliance and said the 'mahamilawat' (the alliance) will "wipe out" the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The SP president said that the BJP had failed to fulfill the promises it made to the people in 2014 and that the people would give a befitting reply to the saffron party in the LS elections.

"People will revolt against the BJP... it (BJP) has betrayed the electorate and it will be taught a good lesson in the elections," Akhilesh said.

He referred to the problems being faced by the farmers and said the Yogi Adityanath government had slapped stringent sections of the IPC against the farmers who had thrown potatoes on the streets of the state capital in protest against its falling prices a few months back.

Akhilesh also took potshots at BJP president Amit Shah and said that many of the ministers in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet faced criminal cases.

"How will it look if the ministers in the government also put on boards around their neck displaying the sections of the IPC under which they are facing charges?" he asked.

Akhilesh was apparently referring to Amit Shah's remarks that criminals were on the run in UP after BJP came to power.
