Maharashtra Wakf Board CEO held in graft case

Last Updated 30 June 2013, 19:34 IST

The State Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), in a Saturday midnight swoop on the residence of Maharashtra Wakf Board CEO N D Pathan in Nanded, unearthed cash and jewellery, along with details of bank accounts and property papers running into crores.

The ACP laid a trap for Pathan on Saturday evening, and took him into custody while he was accepting a bribe.

Thereafter, late in the night, the ACB carried out a search of his Nanded residence and seized jewellery and papers detailing his bank accounts and properties.

According to local media, the ACB team had brought a currency-counting machine from a nearby bank to assess the exact amount of hard cash Pathan had stashed away in false ceilings in his house.

According to an anti-corruption case registered in Nanded, the ACB had laid the trap following a complaint by Nanded resident Shaikh Kareem, who had taken an agricultural land on lease from the board.

Kareem wanted a renewal of the lease, which had expired this year, and Pathan, the CEO of the Waqf Board, had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for the lease extension.
