Echoing similar views of Japan, the United States said that  the six-day trilateral “ Exercise Malabar-15” is not to target any country, but purely to improve maritime security and for the freedom of navigation.

China had recently raised objections over Japan’s involvement in the exercises, which were conducted between the US and India.

“It is China’s concern and issue,” said Rear Admiral Roy J Kelley, Commander, Carrier Strike Group 12 of the US Navy.

“Exercise Malabar is aimed at making our navies get to communicate with each other for not only ensuring freedom of navigation but also freedom of commerce to flow around the world,” he said.

Kelley said that since Asia-Pacific is a vast area, such naval exercise is very important, especially to carry out commerce activities peacefully.

He also pointed out these kinds of naval exercises is a good communication tool, which could help to know each other talents.

“The naval drill include anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue operation among others,” he said.

Stoppage

Meanwhile, the naval exercise was not carried out fully on Friday. Only few flights took off and landed in the ship.

However, search and rescue operation was carried out in the night.
