Hitting back at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's allegations and protest against CBI's attempt to question the Kolkata Police Commissioner, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Chief Minister's protest was aimed at saving herself from CBI.

He was speaking to journalists in Kolkata on Monday.

"She ( Banerjee) is sitting in dharna to save herself from the CBI," said Javadekar. He alleged that it was not Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the West Bengal Chief Minister who has imposed "Emergency" in Bengal.

"We want to make it clear to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) that we will fight against the Emergency in Bengal. We defeated Indira Gandhi after she imposed Emergency in India and we will also defeat Mamata Banerjee and her party," said the Minister.

He lashed out at the TMC government for not allowing choppers of BJP President Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Smriti Irani to land.

However, he avoided a direct reply when asked whether BJP will demand imposition of President's rule in Bengal.

"Currently we will not say anything (about this)," said Javadekar.

His comments come a day after an unprecedented standoff took place between CBI and Kolkata Police when a team from the Central agency tried to question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in relation to the Saradha chit fund scam.
