Following the removal of CBI Director Alok Verma, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a dig at the CBI dubbing the organisation as “BBI (BJP Bureau of Investigation)” on Wednesday.

Her comments comes on a day when Verma has moved the Supreme Court against his removal as the CBI chief.

However, the State BJP leadership and CPM scoffed at her remarks.

“CBI has now become so called BBI (BJP Bureau of Investigation)— very unfortunate,” Mamata tweeted on Wednesday.

Verma and CBI’s Special Director Rakesh Asthana were instructed to go on leave late on Tuesday night and CBI’s Joint Director M Nageshwara Rao was asked to performed the duties of CBI Director as order an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.

The two officers were asked to go on leave after their spat came out in the open resulting into major embarrassment for CBI.

Baseless remarks: BJP

Describing the Mamata’s remarks as “baseless”, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh told DH “if BJP was using CBI as she claims then half of the Trinamool Congress leadership would be in jail.”

He also said that “if there was an issue within the CBI, the government at the Centre will deal with it as per law.”

Accusing the chief minister of changing her attitude towards CBI according to her convenience, Sujan Chakraborty, senior CPM MLA and Leader of the Left Legislative party in the West Bengal Assembly, said “she used to demand CBI probe into every other case when she was in the Opposition in West Bengal and now she is speaking against CBI as the organisation is not working in her favor."
