Man kills daughter fearing wedding expenses

In a shocking incident, a man reportedly strangled his three-year old daughter to death in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, about 150 km from here, to avoid the expenses he would incur for her marriage.

The father, Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sevra village in the district, was arrested by the police, according to sources here on Tuesday.

Police sources said Ananya had gone missing a few days back and a complaint in this regard had been lodged at the Kurebhar police station.

The cops launched a massive search operation and, aided by the dog squad, recovered the body of the girl from a well a few metres away from the village.

The postmortem revealed that the little girl had been strangled to death after a which a case of murder was lodged.

The police cracked the case after they interrogated Sunil and recovered the towel with which he strangled his daughter.

"Sunil said that he was a poor person and was worried over the possible expenses he would have had to incur during Ananya's marriage and therefore he killed her," said a senior police official in the district on Tuesday.

The police said Sunil had taken Ananya to a secluded place at night and strangled her. He had made a previous attempt to kill her, which did not succeed.
