Man pulls up from tracks with severed foot in hand

Last Updated 13 October 2018, 10:37 IST

A man in his thirties, bleeding profusely, picked up his severed foot lying on the railway track and put it on the railway platform while onlookers kept making videos of the accident in Haryana’s Bhiwani.

The badly injured man then gathered the strength to pull himself up to reach the platform from the tracks with one leg. What was shocking was that onlookers at the railway station kept making videos of the man crying for help with the severed foot by his side. None of them reportedly came forward to lend a helping hand for a long time after the accident.

According to the police, Bhiwani resident Krishan Kumar slipped onto the railway track while boarding the train. By the time he could recover, his foot from above the ankle area had got amputated under the wheels of the train. By then the train had stopped. Kumar then pushed himself under the train to pick up his severed body part and put it on the platform.

Appalling apathy

The railway police said Kumar stepped out of the train to fetch a bottle of water for his family, which had already boarded the train to go to Hisar to meet a relative who had been unwell.

While he was paying for the packaged water, Kumar realised that the train had started to leave the platform. He hurriedly rushed towards the compartment. But before he could climb up the footsteps, he slipped onto the tracks. According to sources, the incident took place on Wednesday, but the video of the accident went viral on Friday.

The police later rushed Kumar to a private hospital in Bhiwani where doctors are struggling to reconstruct his amputated limb. More than the tragic incident, what is appalling is the indifference of people, who failed to act fast to help a wailing man sitting in a pool of blood with a lost limb by his side.
