Maoists attack forest offices  in Kerala

Suspected Maoist insurgents on Monday attacked forest offices and commercial properties in separate incidents in two districts of Kerala, raising alert on the insurgents’ presence in northern parts of the state. No casualties were reported in the incidents.

The insurgents attacked the Silent Valley Range office in Mukkali near Attappadi in Palakkad district in the early hours of the day.

Office properties, computers and files were destroyed and a forest office vehicle parked in the office compound was torched by a group of more than 10 armed insurgents who also raised slogans after the attack, according to residents in the neighbourhood.

 In the backdrop of the attack, more police units and members of Thunderbolts – the elite commando force operating under the Kerala Police – were deployed in the region.
In Kunhome in Wayanad district, a forest outpost was attacked and office properties damaged in an early morning attack.

Mananthavady police commenced an  investigation. A KFC outlet and a McDonalds outlet in Chandranagar in Palakkad town were attacked by a group of men at about 7 am.

The police recovered pro-insurgency literature from premises of the attacked properties. Two men were detained for questioning by the police in Palakkad on suspected involvement in the attack on the restaurants.
