Maya blames UPA for Parliament deadlock

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati blamed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for disruptions in Parliament as both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the third consecutive day with no significant business taking place on Friday.

“Whether it is Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha not functioning, it is due to the UPA government and the Centre should be blamed for it. Government is fully responsible for it,” she told reporters when they sought her comments.

A series of stormy issues starting from Telangana formation to Janardan Dwiwedi’s call to end caste-based reservation has been paralysing Parliament since it convened for an extended session from February 5.

“Both Houses are being disrupted due to the Telangana issue,” Mayawati said, maintaining that her party is supporting bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

“Our party supports the formation of small states as it helps in better administration and development. There should be a separate state and we support it,” The BSP supremo said on Telangana.

Should the deadlock on key issues persist, it would seriously jeopardise the legislative session, where as many as 29 bills are awaiting passage.

Four other Bills, including tax proposals for the year 2014-15 and bill to ensure rights of persons with disability have been listed for business during the Session. Six bills relating to the interim budget also feature in the list.
