Maya-Akhilesh says Congress is creating confusion

A day after the Congress declared that it will not field candidates against members of Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav's family and BSP supremo Mayawati in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, SP president Akhilesh and Mayawati on Monday accused the grand old party of "creating confusion".

"The Congress is free to contest all the 80 LS seats... it should not try to create confusion... we have no alliance with the Congress... we are capable of defeating the BJP on our own," Mayawati said in a message on her Twitter handle.

"We will have no alliance with the Congress anywhere in the country... my people should not be misled by the Congress' remarks," the BSP supremo said.

Akhilesh, who retweeted Mayawati's tweets, also said that the SP-BSP-RLD alliance was capable of beating the BJP in UP.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, however, hit back saying that there was no "confusion" in the grand old party.

"We have no confusion... we are fighting the BJP... our aim is to defeat the BJP," Priyanka told reporters while campaigning in Bhadohi district, about 250 km from here on Monday.

UP Congress president Raj Babbar had on Sunday said the grand alliance had left two seats — Raebareli and Amethi (the constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, respectively) — for the Congress.

"We thank them for the same... We will also not field our candidates on the seats from where some of their senior leaders are in the fray," he had said.
