After reports of sexual exploitation of a mentally challenged girl in an NGO in Kopalvani, the Chhattisgarh government has ordered a probe into the incident.

The social welfare department has directed the Raipur district collector to conduct a magisterial probe into the incident and has asked him to submit the report within seven days.

After news of the incident spread, the government has stopped aid to the NGO. They have also said that the girls will be shifted to government institutions if the NGO is found guilty of malpractice and laxity.

The family members of the victim lodged an FIR against a doctor of the centre on January 12, charging that he had been sexually exploiting the girl.

The accused was taken into custody by the police from his residence in Dhamdha, and conducted a medical test.

The NGO has three centres in the state and gets around Rs 74 lakh in aid from the government.
