Modi govt is a govt of lies, loot: CPM

Targeting the Narendra Modi government, the CPM on Friday described the NDA dispensation as a "government of lies and government of loot", against which people are uniting to throw it out of power.

Releasing four booklets on 'Four Years of Modi Govt Misrule: Why it has to End?', CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said under the NDA rule, people who have looted the country have "happily fled" when poor farmers have not got any relief.

"This is 'a slogan a day' government. The prime minister was talking about a new, prosperous India. What we have got instead is a government of lies and a government of loot. Not a single promise has been met. This government should go," Yechury told a press conference.

Under the BJP rule, CPM Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat said, the use of rape has become a "communal instrument" like what one witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. "What we have seen is the toxic Hindutva agenda," she said.

Referring to the NDA government scheme 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (Save the girl, educate her), Yechury said with such incidents, it has become "BJP se beti ko bachao (save girls from the BJP)."

Asked whether the bypoll results in Kairana and other places would lead to a national alliance for the Lok Sabha polls, he said such activities will happen but the point is that the BJP votes are coming down compared to what it garnered in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"It means people are angry. India itself is a grand coalition. In parts of the country, various regional parties are strong... more than the unity among the parties, people are uniting against the BJP government," he said.

Asked about former President Pranab Mukherjee's attendance in an RSS event, he said, "I don't know why he has taken the decision. If such an invitation had come to me, I would not have gone."
