Leading actor Mohanlal is in a legal tiff with the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board over an advertisement.

The actor has sent a legal notice to the board seeking Rs. 50 crore as compensation or a public apology for sending him a legal notice.

The board vice chairperson Sobhana George said in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday that the board was not in a financial position to pay such a huge compensation to the actor and hence would try to settle the matter with the actor.

The tiff is over the advertisement of a private textile firm released last year in which the actor spins thread on a charka. The Khadi Board, a venture of the Kerala Government, sent a legal notice to the firm as well as the actor last year maintaining that the advertisement was misleading as the textile firm was not using khadi cloths. The firm also withdrew the advertisement.

But Mohanlal alleged in the legal notice served to the Khadi Board that the legal notice was served to him even after the advertisement was removed and it was aimed at damaging his reputation.

As part of settling the matter, Sobhana George, who was also a former MLA, said that the notice sent to the actor was like a request only to keep off from such advertisements.
